Criminal Charges Filed Over Poisonous Toothpaste.
LOS ANGELES, AP, March 6, 2008 -- Criminal charges have been filed against a company that prosecutors say imported and distributed nearly 90,000 tubes of Chinese toothpaste containing a poisonous substance, L.A. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo announced Thursday. A wholesaler that supplied local stores with the tubes was also charged.

Colgate fined $1.2 million.
Budapest Sun - Feb 16, 2006. THE GVH, Hungary's Competition Office, said it has fined the Hungarian leg of personal hygiene and care giant Colgate-Palmolive Ft257 million ($1.2m) for "misleading television advertisements." GVH said the adverts in question claimed Colgate's Total toothpaste was a more effective toothpaste than others on the market, a claim the GVH described as "baseless." The adverts were broadcast in 2004 and 2005, and GVH said that when deciding on the fine it had considered the cost of the company's campaign and "how it regards its formula as secret."

Warehouse yields fake toothpaste.
Inquirer - Feb 2, 2006. THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) seized half a million pesos worth of fake toothpaste during a raid on a warehouse in Binondo, Manila, last Monday. NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) agents confiscated 13,680 boxes of 50 ml tubes of counterfeit Close-Up toothpaste from the warehouse at 286 Clavel Street. The counterfeit products were imported from China, even the toothpaste boxes which showed smiling Filipino models were manufactured in China.

Colgate in spotlight amid triclosan concerns.
Reuters - Apr 22, 2005. New research that products containing bacteria-fighting triclosan could expose consumers to a probable human carcinogen is bringing attention to Colgate-Palmolive Co. as its Colgate Total toothpaste contains triclosan.

Toothpaste that fixes cavities as they appear.
